Abhyangam

A general body massage with warm medicated oil, using gentle to moderate pressure.

Dhara

Ayurvedic treatments based on a continuous stream of lukewarm oil or related preparations.

Pizhichil (Sarvangadhara)

Warm medicated oil is poured continuously while the body is gently massaged.

Shirodhara

Medicated oil is poured gently on the forehead as a continuous stream.

Thakradhara

A form of Shirodhara using medicated buttermilk.

Kizhi

Medicinal leaves, herbs, powders or other preparations are bundled and used with medicated oils.

Njavara Kizhi

Fomentation using specially cooked medicinal rice.

Ela Kizhi

Herbal leaves and other ingredients are bundled and warmed.

Podi Kizhi

Medicated powders are made into poultices.

Dhanya Kizhi

Powdered cereals and pulses are bundled for therapeutic sweating.

Udvarthanam

A focused massage with medicated herbal powder using upward strokes.

Vasti

A process of retaining medicated oil or decoctions over a selected area for a specific duration.

Siro Vasti

Medicated oil is held over the scalp.

Kadee Vasti

Warm medicated oil is retained over the lower back.

Greeva Vasti

Warm medicated oil or herbal decoction is used at the back of the neck.

Janu Vasti

Warm medicated oil is retained over the knee joint.

Uro Basthi

Medicated oil is retained on the chest wall.
